REVOLUTION #122
Who and what is served by this off-key chorus, squawking “you’re a cult, you’re a cult” like trained parrots?
This is Bob Avakian—REVOLUTION—number 122.
If a cult is made up of people who mindlessly repeat a mantra, with nothing of substance to back it up, then that definitely fits those mindlessly mouthing “Bob Avakian and the revcoms are a cult,” while failing or refusing to engage the substance of what we have to say.
And, you can hear an echo of Trump in the insistence that “a lot of people believe, a lot of people say” that we revcoms are a “cult.” Does it actually need explaining that what “a lot of people believe, a lot of people say” is not a good and valid standard for determining what is actually true? How many times throughout history, and up to the present, has what “a lot of people believe, a lot of people say” been proved wrong?!
Yet, such is the political and moral bankruptcy of the “you’re a cult” cultists. And, really, when you get down to it, all this “cult” stuff is just a way to avoid doing what needs to be done to meet the profound challenges facing humanity—overall and immediately now with the crucial, urgent importance of uniting all who can be united in increasingly massive non-violent but determined and sustained mobilization to defeat and remove the Trump fascist regime.
Still, especially because there are such monumental stakes involved, let’s give these “You’re a cult” cultists a chance. Here’s an invitation for them: Try, really hard, to open your minds. Along with these social media messages of mine, go to revcom.us and the YouTube RNL (Revolution, Nothing Less!) Show, and seriously engage what you encounter there, including what I have been saying about the danger of fascism going back decades now—and then openly and honestly take part in principled discussion and debate, with us and with others, about this.
I won’t hold my breath—but you never know: in times like this, even some unthinking people may feel compelled to think critically about big things.
So, the invitation is still open.
